Sheldon Richardson asked to take a pay cut during trade talks

Sheldon Richardson is still a member of the Jets despite a whirlwind of trade rumors surrounding the 26-year-old defensive lineman.

Richardson shed some light on the trade talk Thursday, telling the New York Daily News interested teams like the Seahawks and Redskins wanted him to take a pay cut before they would pull the trigger on a trade.

“It’s a business, bro,” Richardson said. “There was one team that asked me to take a pay cut … and it was Seattle. And Washington too. There were a lot of offers. A lot of good offers. You’d be surprised.”

Richardson is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie contract that was heavy on back-end pay. After the Jets selected him with the 13th overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft, Richardson earned $9.35 million over his first four seasons. He is due $8.069 million for the 2017 season.

Taylor said “gratitude was at the core” of everything he said Saturday, but he first thanked his mother.

“I played 15 NFL seasons, but the toughest person I’ve ever met in my life is right there,” he said pointing to his crying mother, Georgia.

Taylor also got choked up when discussing his agent, Gary Wichard. Taylor said Wichard, who died of cancer in 2011, was “so much more” than just his agent.

“He was a dear friend. He was an advisor. And he was truly the father I never had,” Taylor said. “No one believed in me the way Gary did. As a football player, as a person. Even Lakers Cheap Jerseys as a dancer, he talked me into doing ‘Dancing With the Stars.'”

Taylor also joked that he “stole a lot of money from” Redskins owner Dan Snyder with Manchester United Cheap Jerseys just 2 1/2 sacks during his lone season in 2008 with the Redskins before returning to Miami.

Former Cowboys and Dolphins coach Jimmy Johnson, who drafted Taylor, presented him and Taylor joked he played for a lot of coaches and was sort of a “coach killer.”
