Phillies manager Gabe Kapler agrees with Jake Arrieta after pitcher’s ‘horses—’ rant

Phillies manager Gabe Kapler wasn’t upset with Jake Arrieta’s harsh comments about the team after the Giants swept Cheap Dolphins Jerseys them Sunday.

Arrieta said the Phillies are the worst in the league with shifts and called the Giants’ domination of the Phillies just a really horse— series. He also said the team need(s) to have an accountability check.

Despite the harsh words, Kapler said he agreed with Arrieta’s sentiment and understood his frustration.

Jake’s comments are true — we didn’t play well, and we can be better, the Phillies first-year manager told MLB Network. It’s a good opportunity for us to sit down and discuss how we can improve our team.

Personally, I don’t mind Jake expressing how he feels about shifts or anything else.

Even though the Phillies (31-26) have lost six of their last eight games, they are still just 2 1/2 games behind the Braves, who sit first in the NL East.

Kapler did find the silver lining in the situation, saying he appreciated that Arrieta and the team were fired up and not content with their current situation.

I believe I’m prepared. It’s night and day from last year, it’s not even close. I thought I was ready to go last year towards the end of the year, I had coaches tell me I was. Now, it’s totally different. I feel like I’m ready to go, but this is Eli’s team. Eli’s the best quarterback still on this team. Some of the last OTA practices he’s been pretty miraculous, some of the throws and calls he’s made. You can tell why he’s gonna be a first ballot [Hall of Famer], because of the stuff he’s still doing, at 37.

Perhaps Webb will one day get the chance to prove it when the lights are on and the stakes are higher than in an organized team activity practice or an NFL preseason affair. This is, though, the anniversary of the very first time Davis Webb provided to his Giants teammates a glimpse into what he might be all about as an athlete and competitor.
